Despite the Wild Wind

by Mike O’Brien

Despite the wild wind, I will cling
When all that’s around me
is losing its grip,
being torn from its moorings
and carried away
in madness and mayhem
to God alone knows

Despite the wild wind, I will cling,
When no one can hear me
over the bluster,
the terrible creaking
the clanking and cracking
as what was once solid
now crumbles away

Despite the wild wind, I will cling
Holding on to the thought
that all this is temporary
that something of value
will get through the carnage
Made stronger and better
than ever before
