Minimalism

by Adeline Macdonald

White walls

Clean steam iron the linen sheets, white and crisp and beautiful and without fault or fold

White walls upon white walls with nothing to upset you or hurt you or make you cry or want to leave or want to think

Do you love it? Is it simple? Is it happy? Is it everything you imagined in the expert, polished cave?

We can sweep out the bare, moisturized corners which are shaped so nicely, yes what a perfect manufactured angle, our best and finest

There is big open space, beautiful laminate pasture, just for you, you can graze on the cleanliness, the tidiness, the timeliness of it all

There is nothing more than there needs to be, nothing to let in the noise or the sights or the realities that bang on your windows

Did something scare you? Did it give you quite the emotional, revolutionary fright?

Did it sneak in: a worldly thought-provoking thief of peace, dodging your smooth, mental security?

We can remove it, gloves and bags and sprays and wipes and trucks full of this stuff going to far away places that you will never have to see or smell

Here you are perfect, sanitary, and blameless

There is nothing to define you

Everything is in perfect harmony, scientific portions of raw, nutritious furniture and pillows grown from the purest dirt

Here you can brush off the past and future, too rough on the edges for such a refined palate

Take off any traces of discontent and leave it at the door, it will be swept and vacuumed and scrubbed and replaced by something sweet and nice and pretty to look at- how about a vase?

If a sensation slips through the cracks, slithers through the vents or wriggles down your sink, it can be disposed of quickly and quietly, before the roots can grow into something monstrous you can’t contain

We apologize for the images you may encounter on the dangerous roads, the pictures and the feelings and the messages and the screams and the slogans and the dirt and the bulk of it all

But here it is blank and soundproof and nicely cut and protected

Here you are safe
