Bed sheets wet again
From tears and solo gears
Cranking away at fantasies,
The last remaining safe space.
Sunrise is mercilessly early—
6 AM to be exact—
And there’s a suffocating pressure
To start the day off strong.
But no one’s ever gotten anywhere
On the strength of a resolution,
Since it’s only a brief sentiment
Oblivious to desire’s impediment.
Teeth brushed, shower rushed through
With the impatience of a toddler
Who loves the world so much
They don’t want to waste time in a tub.
This is not the case anymore
Although the memory is soothing,
A reminder that naivete
Once conquered cold reality.
Soon the day starts over
At 5:59 AM,
Imagining the chirps outside
Are soothing human voices.
