by Sheila Rose Montgomery
I swallowed them whole.
I dipped them in the gravy.
I pulled out the mushrooms.
He was driving the other woman around town.
He knocked her up in six months.
He was seen buying baby clothes in the mall.
He stopped calling me.
I cut the last mushroom in half.
I dropped one half into the toilet and flushed.
I ate the other half.
I poured the gravy back into the pot.
He moved in with her.
He started to attend lamaze classes with her.
He sent me an invitation to her baby shower.
He quit smoking.
I threw out the remaining mushrooms.
I ordered Chinese.
I drank a bottle of red wine.
I threw up and didn’t clean it up until the next day.
