The Beginning

(A note on the text: This text was taken from Adolf Hitler’s notorious book, “Mein Kampf.” This poem and the others in the series are all found poems. The words do not belong to me, but their current order is my own. –JM)

FROM—LOVE POEMS I FOUND IN MEIN KAMPF

THE BEGINNING

My soul’s poisoning begins again,
corruption by pain and stimulation.

Ruthlessly, I become her accomplice,
and awake with shattering insights…

So-called wisdom hardens my
young body, steals my freedom.

Corrupted
by a hothouse of
my own pain,
my gift negated
and laid bare.
